20.02.2016 (Saturday)

20.02.2016 (Saturday)

1021 hours. Another weekend has come. But I am at my workspace in my rental room at BBK Condominium, trying to finish my paper entitled Parents’ Perception on the Use of Educational Mobile Application (EMA) with Augmented Reality in Early Childhood Education. I need to focus very intensely now, as I only need to complete the literature reviews and send it to Dr, Shahril Nizam by 1200 hours. I have other stuffs planned later, including abs workout and going to Abang Ngah's house at 1500 hours to test his newly developed card game.

So, why is finishing this paper important for me?
To reflect my credibility and performance as a Research Assistant. Submitting this paper today at the aforementioned time is a statement of my ability to deliver and to work independently. This paper, once published, will also go into my curriculum vitae (CV) as the second paper that I had published, and I am 25 years old.

How am I feeling right now?
I am feeling optimistic. Was tired last night, but I had enough good night sleep and inshaaAllah I am now ready to tackle problem head on and to solve and achieve my objectives, one by one. I have the power of focus.

17.02.2016 (Wednesday)

17.02.2016 (Wednesday)

1154 hours. I am writing this in UM's Main Library. Kamis is sitting not far from me, working on his paper.

First and foremost, let me write all the objectives that I intend to achieve today:
- Complete i-Yuno translation (Mother's Garden-Episode 24).
- Work on research grant's literature review (skimming and scanning).
- Decide whether to join Gunung Jerai expedition (list pros and cons).

There. As listed above, those are some of my objectives for today. However, I have to inform that my first objective, which is the i-Yuno translation, has been cancelled. Apparently I had ended my work with i-Yuno. No more translation works. Actually, the translation was supposed to be due today by 0900 hours. However, I had only managed to do about 5 minutes of the translation / editing. This is because I had been working on another translation, and also I have been busy with my duty as a Research Assistant in UM. Hence, when asked by Naim this morning at 1000 hours via email, I told him that it would be done by evening, and this would be my last work for now, as my semester is starting soon. He replied not long after, of which I will quote below. Heck, I will quote the entire email conversation:

Hi Aiman
May i have an update on the status of this file?

Hi Naim.
I'm still working on it. Should be done by this evening.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Evening? It is due 9am today. Why the delay?
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Sorry Naim, but I have been working on academic-related stuffs.
But I will try and finish it as soon as possible.
Apparently this is the last translation/editing job that I could do for now. My semester is starting soon.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

You didn't tell me anything and now you have to submit late. I have to reschedule at the last minute because of this. This is not the first time you delay without notifying me. You can't keep delaying whenever you feel like it. Do you even take this job seriously? I know you are a freelancer with us but we take our jobs seriously. If you can't commit then don't take up the assignment. I am very frustrated at your attitude. Consider this your last assignment with us. I expect you to submit this file by end of today.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Please acknowledge my response and let me know what time you will submit the file. I need an estimate time.

Hi Aiman

I have cancelled this title under your name. Please be informed.

So... That was how it went. But I am not blaming anybody. Let me further elaborate by answering the following questions:

How are you feeling right now?
I am feeling fine. A little bit negative feeling tried to touch me as I read the email, but alhamdulillah I quickly reasoned and think logically. I am not sad of losing a job. Indeed, everything is not permanent and we will lose them eventually. And about money, I am not worried because I know Allah is the one who manages the 'rezeki'. In addition, I still have my savings and investments. Hence, I am not sad at all. Maybe I am a little bit concerned about financial stability. But hey, I still have my Research Assistant (R.A.) job at Universiti Malaya. Look on the bright side, at least I am able to focus 100% on my R.A. work now. Alhamdulillah. I really need to work diligently so that I really earn the RM1500.00 salary, and so that it is 'berkat' and Allah has 'redha' over me and my possessions.

What would you do now?
Referring back to my list of objectives, I will simply skip the first objective and move on to the next, which is to work on research grant's literature review (by skimming and scanning articles). In case you did not really know me, yes, I am a practical and objective person.
So I am off now to focus on my work as a Research Assistant.

LATER
1242 hours. I am considering whether to go or not on the Gunung Jerai expedition. Here are my analysis:

Gunung Jerai Expedition (11, 12 & 13 March 2016)

Note: Do readings on Mount Jerai and previous expeditions. Take note on the challenges and suggestions.

To go or not to go?
PROS:
1. Exploring the world--it is what I had always wanted to do.
2. Financially cheap trip--it is a group trip, only RM150 to cover transportation, accomodation, food and a free t-shirt.
3. Will be more motivated to work out.

CONS:
1. Might have to skip a PXGZ6102 (Statistics for Research in Education) class on Friday.

2. Will have to replace 1 day of R.A. work on Saturday.

Based on the analysis above, it could be seen that the 'pros' outweigh the 'cons'. Therefore, inshaaAllah I am going for this Extreme 4th expedition. Will contact Nina (014-225 5920) now to confirm.

15.02.2016 (Monday)

15.02.2016 (Monday)

0845 hours. Alhamdulillah, I woke up for Subuh and after that recited Al-Quran. Came across one interesting ayat in Al-Quran, specifically the last ayat in Surah Al-Fath, where Allah mentioned directly that "Muhammad is the messenger of Allah". Subhanallah. Also, in that ayat, Allah elaborated the characteristics of a Muslim according to the Torah (Taurat) and Bible (Injil). Subhanallah, Allahuakbar.

I am planning to have breakfast now, inshaaAllah, of the char kuey teow that I bought last night at Restoran Santapan Rahsia, accompanied with some Adabi coffee. Feels like not going to UM today and work at home instead. Who cares, right, as long as I get the work done.

Note: Today is Sophy (Sofea)'s birthday. I have wished her good things last night, both on the 'TESL Kingdom' WhatsApp group and to her privately.

13.02.2016 (Saturday)

13.02.2016 (Saturday)

(Actually, this entry was made in the next day, for the purpose of narrating the progress and achievement done on the above date and day.)

Today, I woke up slightly before 0700 hours in my rental room in BBK Condominium. Prayed Subuh. Then I made Radix coffee and had some biscuits for breakfast. I work on i-Yuno Media translation job for a Korean movie entitled Sweet Mob Family - Episode 10. That is my primary objective for today, which is to complete this task. To be honest, I do not really like doing Korean movie / drama translation, because the plot are cliche and boring for me. I would rather work on Discovery Channel translation and be amazed by new knowledge learned from the movie.

I did not even got out of the house today, except once at 2130 hours. Let me elaborate on what I ate today. After biscuits and Radix coffee for breakfast, I had Mamee Chef (Curry Mee Hoon) for lunch. Two packets of that Mamee Chef. And I ate the remaining Jeruk Madu Pak Ali, which are scrumptuous. Made some tea.

The only time I got out at night, I went to the nearby Jusco Bukut Raja mall. I bought several things, which are:
- San Remo tomato pasta sauce (free pasta) - RM9.88
- Mamee Chef Curry Laksa - RM6.35
- Mamee Chef Spicy Shiitake Chicken - RM6.35
- Jammy Peanut Butter - RM11.35
- Gardenia Bran & WheatGerm bread - RM2.55

Hence, I spend a total of (including RM0.20 for plastic bag): RM36.70

For dinner, I bought 1 piece of KFC fried chicken (breast, the new Ayam Kicap) for about RM4.50.
I ate that, along with 2 slices of bread to finish off my old peanut butter.

Some things that I did today includes:
- Playing Runescape, after not being online for quite some time.
- Obtained house WiFi password (anuar23456789).

Slept late at about 0415 hours, with about 9 more minutes of translation work to be done. Just...too...tired and sleepy.

02.01.2016 (Monday)

02.01.2016 (Monday)

0737 hours. Alhamdulillah, I woke up on time as my phone alarm sounded, at 0645 hours. But last night I woke up from my sleep several times, at about 0300 hours, 0400 hours and 0500 hours. I had performed Subuh prayer and recited Al-Mathurat as the beginning of my day. I have some objectives planned, but I have to remember to try and save electricity.

Saturday, 30 January 2016

31.01.2016 (Sunday)

0811 hours. Alhamdulillah, I woke up several time last night, at about 0400 hours, at 0600 hours and finally I woke up for Subuh prayer at 0645 hours when my phone alarm sounded. Alhamdulillah, after Subuh prayer, I did not sleep despite the fact tht I slept quite late, at 0130 hours last night. I listed down my objectives for today in my little green notebook of objectives. I like to be specific. I had completed several objectives:
- Pray Subuh.
- Recite Al-Mathurat (full / kubra)
- Soak towel in detergent.
- Take boiled drinking water, which has been left overnight to cool.
- Boil drinking water.
- Make coffee (Kopi Radix).

Alhamdulillah. Now, several more objectives to be achieved:
- Finish Pn. Fatimah's translation.
- Have breakfast (sausages and bread).
- Wash towel.
- Wash clothes.
- Take shower.
- Finish 30 minutes worth of i-Yuno Media assignment (Mother's Garden subtitle).

LATER
2033 hours. How fast time flies. But alhamdulillah I have put the available time to good use. All the objectives above were acieved, except for the last one. I am currently at the 15th minute of the translation.

I had just finished reciting Al-Mathurat. Alhamdulillah, my voice feels great, but I am not sure how my vocal got to that feeling and condition. But I have an assumption. I am aware that eating either spicy or oily food will change our voice texture. Did you notice that? So, today I did not go out at all, I only cook the sausages that I bought at Jusco yesterday. It was fried (oily) using olive oil, and the sausage is black pepper (spicy) chicken. Notice the combination? Perhaps it was the combination on both spicy and oily food? It was just my inference. Wallahu'alam.

Anyway, I have to resume my work now. No rest until I am done with 30 minutes worth of translation. Then I will think about dinner.

Note: I am still on holiday tomorrow (Monday) because it is Hari Wilayah Persekutuan. So, I need not go to Universiti Malaya (UM).

LATER
2225 hours. Whoa~ Subhanallah, I cannot believe that I actually started working out. But, it happens because I believe in myself. So I had just done with biceps and shoulder (front) workout. My hands are actually shaking right now as I am typing. I am actually trying my best to try and press the correct letter on this keyboard to avoid typo. Anyway, from now on my workout routine will change slightly, and the records will be kept on my Google Drive, in Microsoft Excel format.

As for my workout routine, I am now following Arnold Schwarzenegger's principle, which is as he said, to "shock the muscle" in order to gain muscle size. So, there will be several routines (two or more) for each targeted muscle. And the routines will have no specific order. Hence, the muscle could not anticipate what will be coming next, and every workout will always start with the heaviest and eventually going lighter and lighter towards the end of session.
InshaaAllah, I will now create my latest workout routine.

30.01.2016 (Saturday)

30.01.2016 (Saturday)
0148 hours. I am just about to sleep. Subhanallah and alhamdulillah, this is my first night sleeping in my new rental room in BBK Condominium, Bukit Raja, Klang. Alhamdulillah, I feel comfortable and at peace here. The night is so different with the nights at PKNS flat, Section 17, of which I am usually lulled to sleep with the sounds of vehicles passing the road.

InshaaAllah I am going to wake up at 0645 hours tomorrow and then I plan to, inshaaAllah:
- Have breakfast.
- Wash bathroom.
- Wash clothes.
- Take shower.
- Work on and finish Pn. Fatimah's questionnaire translation job.

LATER
0754 hours. Alhamdulillah, I figure I got most things sorted out. Probably you are here, reading this blog or this specific entry because you read about it in my hard-copy, hand-written journal. That's good.

I am going to work on and finish Pn. Fatimah's questionnaire translation job now. The orders from her are simple:
- Translate the questionnaire.
- Format the questionnaire (1 in Bahasa Melayu & 1 in English).
- Submit the questionnaire to her.

So those are going to be my objectives for now, inshaaAllah.

LATER
0927 hours. Alhamdulillah, I feel comfortable and productive working here. But I do realize that a good man (which I am trying so hard to be) will not only perform well in a desired condition, but in all types of condition. I must be prepared to work and produce excellent result in every manner of condition possible. But of course, we will try our best to produce the best working condition as possible, which inshaaAllah will benefits in numerous ways.

Quote for today:
"Every act you have ever performed since the day you were born was performed because you wanted something." -Andrew Carnegie-

LATER
1121 hours. I am back at home sweet home (or should I say, room sweet room?). I have accomplished several significant tasks, of which will be listed and elaborated below, according to its chronology:

- 1632 hours, I headed to my previous rental house (PKNS Block 1, Section 17) to accomplish two objectives:
1) To meet En. Zamani at 1700 hours, and
2) To help Ismail and Fadzley moves the big stuffs from the rental house to their current rental house at Ken Rimba. A pickup truck should arrive at 1730.

So, alhamdulillah, I accomplished the objectives, done moving big stuffs such as washing machine, shoe rack and so on from the fifth floor onto the pickup truck.

Develop excellent rapport with En. Zamani, and this is the second time I meet him face-to-face other than the first time when we started renting a few years ago. I showed him the house, and showed him the areas that require repair, specifically the ceiling fan and the ceiling. He seems impressed as I told him I already paid this months' electrical bill, and I even showed him the receipt. Alhamdulillah I have the receipt in my green Uptown Ducati pouch bag.

There was one additional objective, though. En. Zamani asked a favour from me to hand the key to Cik Aishah and her fiance En. Zamil. Both of them arrived just as we finished moving big stuffs onto the pickup truck. So I showed them the house, explained what I had discussed with En. Zamani, and explained about Shawal, who is still trying to find a rental home / room. Gave the key to En. Zamil, who will be staying there starting this February, inshaaAllah. The couple will be married in February, and eventually will be living there together.

- Went to Ismail (and also Fadzley's) rental home.
So, after all were settled with Cik Aishah and En. Zamil, and also Shawal, I headed to Ismail's house with my motorcycle basket filled with Irfan's file. The file contains his handouts and course outlines from our degree years. He asked me to keep it for a while, and he will return to retrieve it. So I am taking the files to Ismail's home, as I figure there is going to be more space compared to where I am staying. But the main reason is because it is more convenient for me (I am being very honest). Took a while to find their house, but alhamdulillah I managed to learn, finally, on how to get to the Dataran Keris that I so often see as I am taking Federal Highway to Klang. The Dataran Keris is situated just beside the highway, and the entrance is near Ismail's and Fadzley's house.

I arrived at their house with Ismail, and immediately I prayed Asar there because it was already near 1900 hours. After that, I helped just a little bit with cleaning, because there were not much to do anyway. Fadzley had been cleaning the kitchen since morning, and it looks very nice and clean. The only thing that they need to do with regard to their house, in my humble opinion, is to get rid of extra stuffs in their house. There are so many extra stuffs left by previous owner, who said something ambiguous like, "I'm going to retrieve these items later." That is one issue, which makes the house looks crowded and messy.

Ismail's room (this is the first time I visited their house) is okay. It is just that he have quite a lot of items, so his room looks crowded. Perhaps it will look better with proper organization and arrangement.

- Returned home to BBK Condominium.
Then I returned home, having confirmed with Ismail to have dinner tonight at Warung Tepian Sungai at 2030 hours. I arrived and it was already 2000 hours. No time to lose, I quickly and efficiently wash my clothes (one shirt, one jean trousers and one underwear--such is my common set for one washing trip) and took shower. I need to stick closely to my cloth washing schedule so that I would be able to finish washing my accumulated worn clothes. So far, only four accumulated worn clothes left, alhamdulillah.

After that, I prayed Maghrib and recited Al-Quran a little bit. I noticed, in this 'Tafsir Pimpinan Ar-Rahman Kepada Pengertian Al-Quran' published by Darul Fiqir, there is a little mistake, perhaps, in the translation. To be precise, one letter was left out, according to my understanding. And that left out letter had caused the Malay translation meaning to change compared with the Arabic. Let me be more specific, the mistake is in page 1375, Juz 26, Surah Al-Fath, ayah 17. It was written:
"...ke dalam Syurga yang mengalir di bawanya beberapa sungai...", when I thought it should be:
"...ke dalam Syurga yang mengalir di bawahnya beberapa sungai..."
Hence, I am going to email the publisher and inform them of this matter. I cannot just stay quiet when I found out about this. At least there is room for improvement.

- Went to Mr. DIY, Section 18, Shah Alam.
WhatsApp Ismail telling that I could not make it if it is at 2030 hours. Asked him if it is okay to move the time to 2100 hours. He is okay, he said that he is going to buy bus ticket for Chinese new Year holiday first, at Section 13. Considering that, I stopped by Mr. DIY shop first and took my time there. I went there to buy two things:
1) Wooden ladle (to fry sausages using Irfan's electric cooker).
2) Night light to brighten my room a little bit when I am sleeping.

Alhamdulillah both objectives were achieved, having bought the wooden ladle at RM3.10 and the flower-shaped light at RM2.50.

I even stopped by Giant Section 18 to buy a loaf of Gardenia bread to be eaten with the fried sausages. InshaaAllah, those are going to be my meal tomorrow. Looks like En. Anuar's aura had gotten to me a little bit, in which he cooks most of his food, almost for every meal.

- Went to Warung Tepian Sungai.
I went there, but Ismail did not reply to my WhatsApp informing that I am already en route. I am hungry and thirsty, so I ordered 'kopi O suam' and 'nasi goreng daging'. Ate while watching Big Hero animation movie. Quite interesting. After my meal, Ismail replied, saying that he had just eaten. He went to the food festival at Section 13 stadium. I don't really mind, but I replied, "Mail parpom." The word 'parpom' was coined by me to depict a person who talks more that he/she actually acts. This word was inspired by certain people when I was a UiTM Research Assistant working at ICAN office. In this context, I know that Ismail will not take the message seriously, as he knows me,

- Stopped by Shell Section 17 petrol station to pump motorcycle tyre.
No, nothing is wrong with my motorcycle tyre, alhamdulillah. It is just that I like to pump my motorcycle tires after one alternate refuel. Meaning that, I will refuel once and pump the tyres, then I will only refuel, then for the third time I will refuel and pump the tires. That is what I practice to ensure optimum performance from my motorcycle (Acu's motorcycle).

However, the pumps at Shell Section 17 is out of service. Same goes at Petron Bukit Raja as I stopped by afterwards.

- Returned home.
Here I am! Got home, En. Anuar is here, watching Naruto anime on the television. Had a little chat with him, in which:
- I informed him about my previous rental home, that it had already been occupied.
- He told me he had already eaten the Jeruk Madu Pak Ali that I put in the freezer and offered to him.
- He told me, upon my inquiry, that the television has a special feature making it available to play videos from YouTube as movies, as long as there is internet connection. That explains Naruto anime he has been watching.

Then I got into my room and started tidying up my place by sorting and storing the items that I bought. Then I took some water from the water heater by putting it into my flask, given to me by IPSis UiTM when I first registered for postgraduate study. Then I folded (more like rolled) the clothes that I washed this afternoon, that had already dried. Then I switch on my computer, and here I am, typing this entry.

Wow. Did you notice the time I started typing? It is a significantly long entry. It is now 0012 hours. I really need to settle several tasks, now:
1. Contact Darul Fiqir company to inform them about the mistake in Tafsir Pimpinan Ar-Rahman.
2. Transfer some movie from my Asus Zenfone into hard disk, to free up some space.
3. Pray Isyak.
4. Sleep.

And tomorrow, the primary objectives are:
1. Finish Pn. Fatimah's translation job.
2. Work on i-Yuno Media's Korean subtitle translation.

Here are some motivational words from the wise:

Dr. Azizan Osman had often said,
"Fast action yields fast result."
Then I read this quote from Isocrates, saying,
"Think slowly, act quickly."
But I figure there should be time where--like it or not--we have to think quickly. Then I found this nice quote from Robert Sternberg which pretty much sums up my thought:
"The essence of intelligence would seem to be in knowing when to think and act quickly, and knowing when to think and act slowly."
